Henry Cavill // Experimental Liquid Charcoal Portrait
Introducing an experimental liquid charcoal portrait of the talented actor, Henry Cavill!
I am not sure if Cavill is recognizable here, my focus here wasn’t the resemblance but daring to try new things, work with a wet medium – which I consider myself not being good at all.
Known for his captivating performances, Cavill’s enthusiasm for fantasy fiction, like The Witcher, World of Warcraft, and Warhammer 40.000, is no secret. I always loved he is not shy to speak about the love he truly feels for those things, although most regard them as nerdy, quirky or even ridiculous.
Transitioning from drawing to painting, particularly with wet media like liquid charcoal, is really a challenge for me as I am accustomed to graphite and charcoal – and an eraser ;)
It’s about stepping out of the comfort zone, trying new things, and breaking boundaries in creativity. IMHO, having an open mind is vital for maintaining creativity, and the fear of failure is the enemy of innovation and development. This piece is surely not a masterpiece, not really what I tried to achieve here, but I do believe it is one step of my personal process of growing with my art, so I decided to post this to document the power of embracing new mediums and the beauty and horror that can arise from daring to experiment.
